Novell Filr Will Make Files, Well…Cool, Again!

Network mapped drives - you know the ones I'm talking about: your personal H:\ drive, or the corporate G:\ drive, maybe you even have a departmental I:\ drive. Personally, I haven't used our network share in years, and I doubt that any of our staff have, either. It's just not...convenient. I mean, the guys are always on the road, engaging with customers across Canada and the US - we're almost never on the LAN anymore. (By the way, is it just me, or does LAN just sound so 90's?) Many years … [Read more...]

Teaching Students to Collaborate with Novell Vibe

In August of this year, Pam David, network administrator for Roselle School District 12 near Chicago, engaged our services through our vibe:Advantage offering in order to help them get started with Novell Vibe. Now, almost three months later, I asked Pam to send us some news on how they were doing. Here is her status updates in her own words: Challenge District 12 prides itself on staying on top of technology in order to prepare our students to be life-long learners and positive … [Read more...]

Migrating from GroupWise: A Costly Decision

An educational client - over 75 schools, 40,000 students and more than 7,500 employees (administrative & teaching). They run Novell GroupWise. Have been for years. They have a domain with 9 post offices for the 7,500+ employees - these post offices handle a ton of email traffic every day. Most of the teachers access their mailboxes through the WebAccess interface. Another domain, with 3 post offices, handles the mailboxes for the 40,000+ students. Granted, only about 5,000 of them … [Read more...]

GroupWise 2012 – WE Care!

Novell GroupWise 2012 was recently released, and heated exchanges have been flying across the web about whether that should even be news. It all started with this blog by David Strom. Mr. Strom is described as an IT journalist, so I'm not sure what real-world experience he has with actually supporting and managing enterprise email systems; however, he apparently knows enough to claim that no one cares that Novell has a new version of GroupWise. This, of course, has set off a string of responses … [Read more...]

Novell Vibe 3.2 is right around the corner - slated for general availability in mid-November 2011. Forrester Agrees: Work is What You Do, Not Where You Go!

Well, we've been talking about this for a while, now: Work is What You Do, Not Where You Go! Novell used this line a couple of years ago when marketing Teaming + Conferencing, and we've continued to evangelize the wisdom of this tagline, because we believe it to be true. No matter where your work takes you, you should still be able to securely stay in touch with what is going on back at the office, contribute and collaborate with your colleagues. Teaming has since evolved into Novell Vibe, and … [Read more...]

5 Steps to a Paperless Office

Do you know that on average, one out of every six printed pages are thrown out without even being read? According to some organizations, it may even be more! Do you spend a long time looking for files, going through overstuffed cabinets and boxes, or stacks on your desk? Are paper files taking up expensive real-estate and crowding your workspace? Are your customers requesting information that belongs to them and you can’t provide quickly enough? Are they requesting access to their … [Read more...]

Managing Larger Projects with Novell Vibe

In a previous segment, we looked at how Task folders can be used to manage small projects using Novell Vibe. This is great if you've got smaller teams working on projects which might not include a huge amount of tasks, resources, departments, etc. However, there are times when this might not be enough. For example, several departments or teams might be involved with getting a project completed, where each has an important number of tasks to work on. The project managers also would like to get … [Read more...]

Managing Small Projects with Novell Vibe

I've recently been working with several customers who are in the midst of deploying Novell Vibe OnPrem. They are very excited at the prospect of opening new channels of communications between their employees, allowing them to collaborate together in a new paradigm: "Work is what you DO, not where you GO!" One of the questions that comes up most often when working with Vibe customers is "how can we use this to manage projects?" Excellent question! Does Vibe replace software like Microsoft … [Read more...]
